Registering for Standardized Tests

The ACT is offered in Seattle Central's Testing Center. Registration for the ACT is centralized through the ACT website, which provides further information on test centers, testing fees and testing dates. Students planning to earn a high school diploma must register for the ACT Plus Writing exam.

Because the ACT is only offered seven times per year in the United States, you should plan several months ahead to ensure that you will have scores prior to finishing your studies at Seattle Central.

SAT

Registration for the SAT is centralized through the College Board website. The pages provide information on testing fees, testing dates both in the United States and internationally, and on other testing policies and procedures. As you register for the exam, you will see more details on available test centers in the area.

AP Examinations

The registration process for AP examinations involves more steps than registering for the SAT or ACT exams. Information on registration is provided on the College Board website.

Most students in the United States take AP exams at the high school they are attending. Since Seattle Central students do not attend a high school, they must register like students who are not enrolled at a high school offering the AP examinations.

AP exams are offered only once per year, during a 2-week period in May. Information on test dates is available on the AP examination website. Students must register for the exams by a specific deadline, usually no more than 2-3 months in advance.

Registering for AP examinations

To register for the exams, follow these steps:

1. Contact AP Services at 888-225-5427 to get contact information for test centers in your area that might let you take the test. Prepare a list of the AP exams you are interested in taking before you call. Depending on the location of the nearest center, you may need to travel outside of Seattle.
2. Call the test center coordinator using the contact information from AP Services to find out if you are able to take the test at the test center.
3. When calling the coordinators to arrange testing, make sure to tell them:
- Your school does not offer the AP exam and you are trying to find a place where you can take them.
- The exam you are interested in taking (Physics, Biology, etc.).

Please keep in mind that the coordinator may not have room for you to take the test, or may not allow you to take the exam at that location. You may need to contact more than one coordinator before you find a test center where you can take the exam.

Preparing for the AP Examination

A number of online resources related to AP examination preparation can be found by doing an internet search.

To prepare for the AP exam in Science, Seattle Central recommends that you enroll for a science class in the exam subject area at least one quarter before you plan to take the examination. If you are unsure of which class to take, please communicate with your primary advisor.
